Dining table on a stone base
ترابيزة سفرة رخام
The base is the engineering. A stone top two and a half metres long has to be carried at the right two points or it will crack across the middle in its own good time — usually about eighteen months after you paid for it.
How it is built
A top that spans, on a base that does not apologise for its size.
- Top is 20 mm slab mitred to read 60–100 mm, or 30 mm solid where the span is short enough to allow it.
- The base is either a pair of solid blades, a single central drum, or a mitred box. Blades and drums are set by calculation, not by eye.
- A concealed steel spine goes under any top over 2.2 m. It is invisible and it is the difference between a table and a future insurance claim.
| Typical size | 2000–3000 mm long, 900–1100 mm wide |
|---|---|
| Top | 20 mm mitred to 60–100 mm, or 30 mm solid |
| Base | Twin blades, central drum, or mitred box |
| Reinforcement | Concealed steel spine over 2.2 m span |
Worth knowing before you order
Marble tops and red wine. We seal, and we still recommend granite or quartzite for a table that will be used rather than admired.
Stone
What it is cut from.
A dramatic breccia earns its place on a table because you sit and look at it for two hours. On a floor the same stone is exhausting.

Imperial Grey Dark
The deep-toned selection of Imperial Grey, veins on charcoal.

Breccia Fawakhir
Angular fragments welded into a hard, mottled ground.

Sahara Brown
Egypt's brown granite — warm ground, dark crystal.

Black Aswan
Dense black with a subtle grey crystal.

Golden Cream Flower
The cross cut of Golden Cream — open, flowering figure.
