Bench, plinth & seat
مقعد حجري
A seat in solid stone is one of the few pieces of furniture that is genuinely permanent. Outdoors it wants a granite; in a steam room it wants a stone that will not spall when it is soaked and heated a thousand times.
How it is built
For a hall, a hammam, a pool edge or a garden that stays out all year.
- Solid slab seat on two solid legs, mitred to hide the joint, or a single cored block for short spans.
- Outdoor pieces are set on a compacted, drained base — a bench that settles unevenly cracks at the leg.
- For steam and hammam we use a granite or a dense marble and we bed with a flexible adhesive, not a rigid one.
| Typical size | 1200–2000 mm long, 420–450 mm high |
|---|---|
| Seat | 40–60 mm solid, or 20 mm mitred to depth |
| Outdoor | Granite, on a compacted drained base |
| Lead time | 3 to 4 weeks |
Worth knowing before you order
Dark granite in full Sahel sun gets hot enough to be unusable at midday. Pale stone or shade.

What it is cut from.
Egyptian granites are the right answer for anything permanently outdoors, and they are quarried here rather than shipped.
