Swimming Pools & Water Features

A pool is three things — a concrete tank, a hydraulic circuit and a finish — and only the last one is visible when it is full. We build the shell in sprayed reinforced concrete, size the circulation so the whole volume turns over properly, tile it in glass mosaic over a flood-tested waterproofing layer, and cope it in marble or granite cut on our own lines.

Scope of works

What we actually do.

Everything below happens inside our business — no subcontracted links in the chain.

  1. 01

    Shell & structure

Sprayed reinforced concrete over a tied rebar cage, waterstop at every construction joint, formed steps and benches, and penetrations for lights, returns and main drains cast in rather than cut later. Free-form or rectilinear, on a ground survey rather than a guess.

  2. 02

    Overflow, deck-level & skimmer systems

Skimmer pools where budget and simplicity lead, and deck-level or infinity overflow where the water surface has to sit flush with the terrace — with a correctly sized balance tank, grating channel and level control. The overflow detail is where cheap pools give themselves away.

  3. 03

    Circulation & water treatment

Sand or glass-media filters, pumps sized to turn the full volume every four to six hours, hair and lint strainers, backwash to a proper drain, plus dosing and salt chlorination with a plant room laid out so a filter change is not a demolition job.

  4. 04

    Mosaic, coping & finishes

Glass mosaic set on epoxy adhesive and grouted in epoxy, marble or granite coping in a drop-face or bullnose profile set to a laser line, and matched deck stone in a bush-hammered anti-slip finish.

  5. 05

    Lighting, heating & jacuzzis

Sealed RGB LED niches on a low-voltage transformer outside the water zone, heat pumps or solar heating for a longer season, and jacuzzis, plunge pools, spillover spas and wall or scupper water features run off the same plant.

Selection

Pools we build

  • Skimmer poolVillas

The straightforward build — water level roughly 15 cm below the coping, skimmers in the wall, no balance tank. Lower cost to build and to run, and the right answer for most gardens.

  • Deck-level overflowSignature

Water flush with the terrace, running over a slot or grating on all four sides into a balance tank. Better surface skimming, a far better reflection, and a plant room that has to be planned from day one.

  • Infinity edgeSea & view plots

A vanishing edge running to a catch basin, set so the water line reads against the horizon from the seating position. Levels are the whole job here — a few millimetres of error shows across a 10 m edge.

  • Plunge pools & jacuzzisRoof & courtyard

Small volumes with a big equipment count. Counter-current jets, heating, air blowers and seating, engineered against the structure they sit on when they go on a roof or terrace.

  • Renovation & re-tileExisting pools

Stripping failed mosaic and grout back to the render, repairing the shell, re-waterproofing, re-tiling and replacing plant that has been patched for years.

  • Water featuresGardens & entrances

Reflecting pools, wall spouts, scuppers and rills, with the same waterproofing and filtration discipline as a swimming pool so they do not turn green.

Questions we get asked

Swimming Pools — questions we get asked

Skimmer or overflow — which should I build?
Skimmer if you want the pool for swimming and the budget to go into the terrace around it. Overflow if the pool is the view from the living room, because a flush water surface reflects and a sunken one does not. Overflow costs meaningfully more to build and slightly more to run, needs a balance tank and more plant space, and is unforgiving of level errors. Both swim identically.
Salt or chlorine?
Salt chlorination is still chlorine — the cell generates it from salt in the water instead of you carrying tablets. It gives a gentler feel on skin and eyes and a far steadier residual, which is why we specify it on most private pools. The cell is a consumable and the water is mildly corrosive to unprotected metal, so fixings, ladders and lighting all have to be rated for it. Dosed hypochlorite remains the cheaper install.
Why do pools crack and leak?
Ground movement on an unsurveyed base, no waterstop at construction joints, and tiling started before the shell was flood tested. All three are decisions made in the first fortnight. We survey the ground, cast the shell with waterstops, then fill and hold it for seventy-two hours with a marked level before a single mosaic sheet goes on.
Can you re-tile an existing pool?
Yes, and it is a large part of our pool work in Sahel and Alexandria where salt air and years of harsh dosing lift mosaic off cement-based adhesive. We strip to sound render, repair the shell, re-waterproof, and re-lay in epoxy adhesive and epoxy grout, which is what should have been used the first time. The plant usually gets replaced in the same visit.
Is heating worth it on the North Coast?
A heat pump adds roughly two months at each end of the season, which for a chalet used mainly in summer is often not worth the running cost. For a New Cairo or Sheikh Zayed villa used year round it changes the pool from a four-month asset to a nine-month one. We size it against the surface area and always pair it with a cover, because most heat is lost overnight from the surface.
