Landscape & Hardscape

Everything between the gate and the terrace edge is hardscape, and it is what a house gets judged on before anyone reaches the front door. We lay large-format stone and basalt on properly compacted bases, band marble walkways with contrasting granite, build the retaining walls that make a sloped plot usable, and get the irrigation and lighting in the ground before the topsoil goes back.

Scope of works

What we actually do.

Everything below happens inside our business — no subcontracted links in the chain.

  1. 01

    Paving & driveways

Large-format stone, basalt setts and slabs, and grid or interlock systems for parking. Laid on a compacted sub-base with a bedding layer and a fall away from the building, cut on site with a wet saw rather than snapped to fit.

  2. 02

    Marble & granite walkways

Walkways in marble with contrasting granite bands, gravel or planted margins, and stone from the same lines that cut the interiors — so the path to the door and the floor behind it are the same material family rather than a coincidence.

  3. 03

    Retaining, boundary walls & fencing

Reinforced concrete and blockwork retaining walls with weep holes and a drainage membrane behind, boundary walls with stone or render finishes, and steel, aluminium or timber fencing and gates.

  4. 04

    Turf, planting & irrigation

Ground preparation and topsoil, roll turf or seeded lawn, planting beds and mature palms, then drip to the beds and pop-up rotors to the lawn, run from a Hunter Wi-Fi controller you can adjust from a phone when you are not in the country.

  5. 05

    Garden lighting, pergolas & shade

Uplighting to palms and walls, path and step lighting, IP-rated buried cabling on dedicated RCD-protected circuits, and pergolas, shade structures and screens engineered for wind rather than assembled from stock parts.

Selection

What we lay

  • Basalt paving & pathsEgypt

Dark, dense and locally quarried. Basalt holds its colour under UV, takes a flamed or bush-hammered anti-slip finish, and reads as a deliberate material rather than a budget one.

  • Marble walkways with granite bandsSignature

Light marble fields with narrow dark granite bands to break up the run and hide movement joints. The detail that makes a long path look designed instead of tiled.

  • Driveways & parkingVehicle loads

Thicker stone or a grass and gravel grid over a load-bearing build-up, with a drainage channel at the threshold so the garage never takes water.

  • Turf, planting & irrigationNew Cairo

Lawn, beds, palms and a zoned irrigation system commissioned and programmed, with a rain and moisture sensor so it is not watering a wet garden.

  • Boundary walls & fencingPerimeter

Walls, gates, railings and screens built with the same steel shop that makes our balustrades, and finished to match the house rather than the neighbour.

  • Garden lightingAfter dark

A garden is used at night for most of the Egyptian year. Uplights, path lights and step lights on scenes, cabled while the ground is already open.

Questions we get asked

Landscape & Hardscape — questions we get asked

Why does paving sink or rock after a year?
Because it was laid on sand over uncompacted fill. Stone does not fail — the ground under it does. We excavate to formation, compact a 20 to 30 cm sub-base in layers with a plate or roller, bed the stone properly and set a fall away from the building. It is the least visible line on the quotation and the one that decides whether the terrace is still flat in five years.
Basalt or marble outside?
Basalt where you want dark, dense and durable — driveways, paths and anywhere that takes traffic. Light marble where you want the ground to stay cool underfoot and to tie back to the interior floor, which matters enormously around a pool in Sahel. Marble needs a textured finish and a salt-resistant sealer outdoors; polished marble outside is a mistake in both looks and grip.
How much water does a lawn actually need?
In a Cairo or New Cairo summer, roughly 5 to 7 litres per square metre per day for turf, dropping sharply in winter. That is why we zone the system: lawn on pop-up rotors with one schedule, beds on drip with a much lower one, and a rain or moisture sensor overriding both. Watering everything from a single tap is what produces both a brown lawn and a drowned bed on the same plot.
Can you do the garden while we are living in the house?
Yes. We phase it — services and drainage first while the ground is open, then hard landscaping, then soft. We keep one clean access route to the front door, sheet the areas we are crossing, and run the noisy cutting away from the house. A full villa garden is typically four to eight weeks depending on how much of it is stone.
Do you set up the irrigation controller and the app?
We install it, zone it, commission each station, set the seasonal schedules and hand you the app already configured with your Wi-Fi and your zones named in plain language. For owners who are abroad for months, that remote control is the difference between coming back to a garden and coming back to a bill for replanting it.
