Mitred waterfall vanity

وحدة حوض بحواف مشطوفة

The workhorse. A slab-thickness top with the face folded down at the front and the sides, so the piece looks as though it was cut from a solid block at a fraction of the block price. Done properly the vein carries across the fold and the joint disappears; done badly you see a dark line at 45 degrees for the rest of the vanity's life.

How it is built

Twenty millimetres of stone that reads as two hundred.

  1. Top and apron are cut from adjacent slab, edges machined at 45°, then bonded with a colour-matched resin and clamped while it cures.
  2. The vein is planned across the mitre before anything is cut. This is the whole trick and it is why a waterfall costs more in labour than in stone.
  3. A laminated edge — a strip glued flat under the top — is cheaper and always shows a seam. We will quote it if you ask, and we will tell you what it looks like.

Worth knowing before you order

A mitre is a glue joint carrying a knock at shin height. On a family bathroom we run a 3 mm radius on the arris rather than a sharp corner.
