Columns, bases & capitals
أعمدة وقواعد
Almost no stone column is a solid column. It is a set of turned or mitred drums around a structural core, with the joints set where the eye does not look for them. The base and the capital are where the money and the skill go.
How it is built
Turned drums, moulded plinths, and cladding that reads as solid.
- Shafts are cut as half-shells or segmental drums and bonded around the structural column, joints staggered up the height.
- Bases and capitals are turned or five-axis carved from solid, because a moulding is where a fake shows itself.
- Fluting, if wanted, is cut after assembly so it runs continuous past the joints.

Worth knowing before you order
A column reads as fake when the joint lines up with the base. We stagger it, always.

What it is cut from.
Sunny Light and Galala are the traditional Egyptian choice for columns and they are quarried in the volume a repeat order needs.

Galala Classic
Egypt's flagship beige — warm, even and quarried in volume.

Sunny Menia
Golden honey ground with fine horizontal movement.

Sinai Pearl
Pearly cream with a faint grey-green cast.

Royal Beige
Rich beige with warm brown drift and occasional gold.

Imperial Grey
Silver-grey ground lit by pale crystalline veining.

Not a drawing
One of ours, already built.
Everything above is a drawing, because a drawing promises a capability and nothing more. This is a photograph of a piece we actually made.
