The stone
About Egyptian Alabaster.
Quarried near Luxor and worked in Egypt for five thousand years, alabaster is soft, banded and — critically — translucent. Backlit at 15 to 20 mm it turns a wall into a lamp. It is not a floor material and will not take traffic or acid, but nothing else in the catalogue does what it does.
